Summary

The purpose of this Expert Meeting is to quantify earthquake sources that can generate dangerous tsunamis and to directly support community hazard assessments and evacuation planning that are part of the implementation of the Tsunami Ready Recognition Program in the PICT. The concept note of the Experts Meeting can be found attached to this e-mail. Several similar IOC Experts Meetings in the Pacific have been held successfully in the past covering seismic tsunami sources in South and Central America, the South China Sea, and in the Tonga - Kermadec region of the Southwest Pacific. This Expert Meeting will also provide an opportunity to hold a half-day meeting focusing on the UNESCO/IOCs Tsunami Ready Recognition Programme (13-14 May 2024, Monday-full day and Tuesday-morning) and a half-day meeting on the implementation of the SMART Cables initiative (17 May 2024, Friday-afternoon) in the region.
