Senior researcher at Centre of Marine
Sciences of Algarve (CCMAR) since 1994. Assistant Professor at Faculty of Sciences and
Technology, University of Algarve (retired).
Main interests: the effects of
fishing on the environment; biology and fisheries of cephalopods, topics of
several research projects, articles, reports and books as author and
co-author.
In the
area of fisheries, also worked at the General Directorate of
Fisheries (DG XIV) of the European Commission, Brussels, Belgium (1991-1994),
and at the National Institute for Fisheries Research (INIP/IPMA), Lisbon,
Portugal, (1980-1990).
Member of several research evaluation panels of
different international programs and organizations.
Participant of several international projects on capacity building (fisheries and internationalisation of Higher Education ). For six years (2008-2013)
was Pro-Rector for international relations at the University of Algarve,
coordinating all cooperation and development programs in Higher Education, as
well as the International Relations Office.
Nowadays,
her interests involve the importance of education for sustainability, and
implementation of Blue Growth in different countries, topics of some European
projects involved in the last years.
In her professional path she also worked
at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, General Directorate of International
Economic Organizations, Lisbon (1978-1980), and at the Ministry of Internal
Affairs, Lisbon (1976-1978).
