My research focuses on diversity and distributions of marine macroalgae. I address questions ranging purely descriptive taxonomic studies over applied phycology (e.g. secondary metabolites in the red alga Portieria) to ecological studies forecasting the distribution of species in relation to environmental changes. Recently we developed Bio-ORACLE (http://www.oracle.ugent.be/), a set of GIS rasters providing marine environmental information for global-scale applications that can be used for Ecological Niche Modeling.
