Belén Martín Míguez has combined research and scientific coordination working in several key institutions both in Spain, France, Belgium and Switzerland, contributing to the development of marine observational networks at national, European and international level. She obtained her PhD at the University of Vigo (2003) and did her postdoc at the University of La Rochelle in 2006. From 2006 to 2009 she worked as a sea level expert at the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO and was heavily involved in the Global Sea Level Observing System (GLOSS) programme. She worked then at the Marine Technological Centre (CETMAR, Vigo, Spain), where she was responsible both for technical and coordination tasks in the framework of several European projects and acquired experience in European projects funding and management. In 2015 Belén provided support to the European Marine Observation Data Network (EMODnet) as part of its Secretariat team. She has also worked at the University of Vigo, being responsible for the European projects portfolio of ECIMAT, a marine station that is part of the European Infrastructure EMBRC-ERIC (European Marine Research Centre). Belén is currently working at the World Meteorological Organization, where she oversees and provides support to OOPC, Ocean Observations Physics and Climate Panel. OOPC is a scientific advisory group responsible for the design and assessment of a sustained global ocean observing system for climate. OOPC is co-sponsored and is a key element of WMO/GCOS, UNESCO/IOC and WMO/WCRP.
