As a Marine Biologist, I have been working on the coastal and deep-sea benthic Ecology and Biodiversity since 1981 and was directly involved in India’s deep-sea Mineral Exploration program.

Under the above important deep-sea program, I have collected the Baseline Environmental and biological data associated with the deep-sea mineral resource such as Polymetallic Nodules, Hydrothermal Sulfides and Cobalt Crusts.  This data is very critical in assessing the impact of deep-sea mining in future. Based on the baseline data collection we conducted the simulated deep-sea mining Experiments in the Central Indian Ocean Basin (CIOB) at the water depth of 5500 meters. All the scientific results of the experimental study are already published in various reputed international journals.

I was involved in preparing the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for India. This EIS statement has been submitted to the International Seabed Authority (UN) for necessary permission to conduct the deep-sea mining trials in the Central Indian Ocean.  

I was also involved in the Global Census of Marine Life (CoML) program and aware of the international requirements as such as Marine Protected Area (MPA’s) Management, Biodiversity beyond National Jurisdiction (BBNJ) and preparing the Regional Marine Environmental Management Plan (RMEMP).

As a marine EIA Consultant, I have worked for > 200 different private and federal companies in India and oversea and provided consultancies for Assessing the Environmental Impact (EIA) of their industrial activities such as Oil & Gas explorations, Marine Effluent Treatment & Disposal Plants, Constructions of Port & Harbours; Deepening of Navigational Channels, sand mining, Environmental Monitoring of Offshore Oil installations etc.

I am an underwater SCUBA diver.
I am a taxonomist specialized in the identification of benthic polychaetes, nematodes, crustaceans and molluscs.

I have gained expertise in writing Marine EIA reports and preparing the Environmental Management plans (EMP) for coastal and deep-sea regions.
  
I can also speak the Japanese language;

I have been working with strong-knowledge based group both at national and international level, my involvement in different expert groups of various ministerial committees and large international forums, such as International Seabed Authority (UN), GBIF, COML, BIONET, IOGOOES, INDEEP, CBOL, SCOR etc  and presentations at the various level given sufficient exposure to interact with international intellectual groups.

I have been actively involved in the leading research programs such as Marine Biodiversity and Resource Assessment. My involvement in prominent international research program such as Census of Marine Life-CoML (I was Node-manager for Indo-OBIS and Member Steering Committee for CenSeam-Seamount;  CoMARG -Continental Margin; CeDAMaR-Deep-sea Biodiversity); GIBIF, CBoL-DNA Bar-coding); InterRidge; BioNET; ISA-International Seabed Authority; SEATOS- Discovery Channel’s International Tsunami Expedition; INDEEP -International Network for Scientific Investigations of Deep-sea Ecosystems  is significantly high through direct participation in field projects and analysis of global scientific data.

I have gained experience in fisheries resource management. My repute is visible through my international collaborations and the experience gained is useful in managing the National Priority and Strategic Research Programs in Biological and Fishery Science. Moreover, I am also involved in various advisory committees’ of States and Central Government in planning and formulating the national-level mega projects and to evaluate research projects related to the country’s marine resource management. Thus, I am fully aware of the national requirement in term of food security and conservation of national living resources.
