I have combined biological and physical oceanography in my previous research, integrating traditional ship-based measurements and laboratory analysis with data from autonomous measuring and sampling platforms. I have coordinated the national open sea monitoring program in Estonia and developed national and Baltic Sea wide oceanographic measurement programmes. I established a Marine Ecology lab at the Tallinn University of Technology, served as the EuroGOOS Secretary General, chaired the Steering Group of the European Ocean Observing System (EOOS), am a member of the scientific and technical advisory group of Euro-Argo ERIC, and advisory board member of FINMARI and SOOP.
