Job Type
ECOP (Early Career Ocean Professional)
Subject Area
Biological Oceanography, Marine Ecology
Activities
Within Cetasea, my mid-term objective is to become a certified European Scientific Diver (level 1), contribute to ecological monitoring projects in Valencia as a diver to create a center of marine mammal rehabilitation with Founder Frederique Gilbert, and collaborate with research team in Valencian Universities and the Oceanogràfic to benefit the Mediterranean Blue Economy and marine conservation efforts. To do so, I aim to engage a wider community of certified scuba divers locally through our local dive center and build a regional citizen science project that expands data collection and habitat management which would hopefully become part of a future thesis with the University Polytechnic of Valencia, MSc Marine and Coastal Ecosystem Management that I’d like to enrol in in 2026/2027.
I am particularly interested in how keystone species can act as bioindicator of ecosystem health and recovery in
MPAs and how divers’ Local Ecological Knowledge (LEK) can help towards their monitoring.
Sea regions of study
Mediterranean Sea - Western Basin
Skills
1. Scientific Research: Biodiversity surveys, site surveying, GIS mapping, and DNA analysis (applicable to marine/coastal ecology).
My degree in Plant Sciences, together with my experience at the Environmental Research Station and the micro-algae laboratory in Manchester, gives me a solid scientific background in marine and terrestrial plant ecology, ecosystem services and restoration, sustainability, and species identification.
2. Governance & Advocacy: Policy negotiation, stakeholder management, and collective decision-making.
As a student union representative for 40 000 student during the
pandemic crisis I thrive in collective environment where we learn from one another and advocate for better right's protection.
3. Multidisciplinary approach: ecological sound art - audio production & analysis
My Master of Popular Music from the Royal Northern College of Music (world's #5) combined eco-acoustical data and music production to develop artistic science communication methods that engages the public and bioacoustic researchers in new creative ways, which are also transferable to bio-acoustic research.
