Kajsa Tönnesson has a PhD in marine ecology. She has
worked with marine issues for more than 25 years, both in Sweden and
internationally, which has given her broad knowledge of various marine issues
and a very large network of researchers, users and government officials. For
more than 10 years, she has been director of the Swedish Institute for the
Marine Environment (SIME). SIME is a national
academic node for interdisciplinary analysis and synthesis assisting marine
environmental governance. The Institute collaborates intensively with many
different partners and universities and is involved in networks and activities
at regional, national as well as international level.
Kajsa is also a member of Sweden's national committee for the UN Decade
of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development, 2021-2030, and was also involved
in developing Sweden's plan for its contribution to the decade. In recent
years, she has also contributed to Sweden's reporting to the Global Ocean
Science Report.
