Activities
As a marine meteorologist, my primary duty is to study and predict weather conditions over oceans and coastal regions. I collect and analyze data from satellites, buoys, ships, and coastal stations to monitor weather patterns and provide accurate forecasts. This includes issuing warnings for severe weather events such as storms, hurricanes, and high waves to ensure the safety of maritime activities.
I support ships and offshore operations by advising on safe navigation routes and optimal weather conditions for operations. Additionally, I conduct research on ocean-atmosphere interactions to understand their impact on global weather and climate patterns.
Using advanced tools like radar, computer models, and weather charts, I interpret complex data to deliver actionable insights. In emergencies, I am responsible for issuing critical alerts for cyclones, tsunamis, and other extreme weather events to safeguard lives and assets. My role is essential in supporting industries like shipping, fishing, and coastal management, ensuring maritime safety and operational efficiency.
