Activities
Ø Collaborate within a multidisciplinary national project team to
achieve research objectives in mapping priority areas for biodiversity within
the National Environmental Program, “Identifying Illegal Recreational Fishing
Hotspots within the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park and Identifying Areas
Important for Biodiversity” - a part of the NESP Marine Coastal Hub 2.5
Project and NESP Resilient Landscapes
Ø Identify and procure key datasets pertinent to biodiversity
assessment at both state and national levels.
Ø Utilise GIS spatial analyst tools to analyse and pinpoint density
hotspots of illegal recreational fishing activities within the Great Barrier
Reef Marine Park and terrestrial biodiversity hotspots at national scale.
Ø Manage data effectively, including cleaning, validation and
geodatabase creation to ensure accuracy and reliability in research findings.
Ø Develop high-quality end-user products tailored for the Department
of Climate Change, Energy, Environment and Water, presenting research outcomes
and recommendations in a clear and accessible manner.
Ø Conduct Quality Assurance-Quality Control (QA/QC) on collected
data from various research papers focused on artificial reef performance and
fish habitat associations.
Ø Review a diverse range of literature, specifically comparative
studies examining artificial and adjacent natural reefs for fish recruitment
and fish habitat associations.
Ø Implement QA/QC processes to ensure data accuracy and
completeness, particularly focusing on missing variables in key categories such
as vertical relief and size.
Ø Execute additional research to fill gaps in the data,
investigating missing information by examining the original papers or
conducting online searches of academic journals.
Ø Adhere to study criteria, where artificial reef success was
determined based on recruitment equal to or higher than natural reefs, and
identified as unsuccessful if recruitment was lower.
Ø Extract and document explanatory variables, including reef age,
size, complexity, and fish variables such as species richness, from studies
that met study criteria.
Skills
Ø Proficient in spatial analysis techniques, including Geographic Information Systems (GIS) such as ArcGIS, remote sensing software including ENVI and Metashape, and climate modelling tools.
Ø Skilled in environmental management practices, including desktop analysis, impact assessments, and species distribution modelling using statistical modelling techniques in R/Python.
Ø Adept are utilising spatial science expertise to conduct QA/QC on data from diverse sources, presenting spatial analytics through high-quality cartographic maps and compiling reports to support stakeholder decision-making and future publications.
Ø Experienced in technical report writing and proposal development for addressing real-world environmental issues.
Ø Demonstrated problem-solving abilities in resolving complex environmental challenges.
Ø Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, facilitating effective collaboration and interaction with stakeholders.
