I’m Wiem
Boussellaa a doctoral researcher since January 2020 at the Sciences Faculty of
the University of Sfax, in Tunisia. During my PhD, I have conducted outdoor
labs to assess in monitoring of invasion species particularly exotic fish
parasitology. From April 2021 to April 2023, I worked as a scientific assistant
on the Life Med Turtles project at Faculty of Sciences of Sfax, Tunisia. The
Life Med Turtles constituted an important step toward my career in marine
conservation research and improve the conservation status of the populations of
the loggerhead priority turtle caretta caretta. Since April 2023, I’m starting a new experience with a post doc position
in the Stazione Zoologica Anton Dohrn di Napoli, Italy. My project is focused
on energy expenditure and ecology of sea turtles during their swimming. For the
first trimester of this project, I familiarised myself with the turtles in
rehabilitation at the Turtle Point, to identify the individuals for trials in
the swim channel; I updated and acquired new knowledge on open-flow
respirometry systems and 3-D accelerometry to derive metabolic rates for
swimming marine vertebrates.
