As an academician my roles include but not limited to teaching, research, consultancy and public services. With over 10 years experience, I have worked in fisheries sector, environment, ecology and pollution related studies.
For many years I have been actively involved in researches projects aiming at address plastic litter both on land and in water bodies.
Just recently from March to April 2021, I participated in the expedition which was carried out in collaboration with Flipflopi Organization in Lake Victoria, the African largest Lake . We sailed from Kisumu , Homabay, Rusinga Island (Kenya), Via Lolwe island, Jinja, Kampala, Entebe (Uganda) , Bukoba, Ikuza Island , Kome Island and Mwanza (Tanzania). Water samples were collected by two methods: i) Manta trawl for surface water and ii) Van Dorn for water column samples i.e. from surface to bottom. Results from this expedition will help policy makers and Lake Victoria residents to better protect the lake for sustainable development.
In 2014 My colleagues and I conducted an expedition in the Mediterranean Sea from Sicily Island Italy to Malaga Spain which involved the collection of water and biological samples for microplastic analysis at Roskilde University Denmark . Data from this expedition were used for writing my Master's Thesis, Titled "Spatial distribution and characteristics of surface sampled
plastic debris in the Southwest Mediterranean Sea"
