Elena Gissi, PhD, Senior Researcher at the National
Research Council, Italy, is currently a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellow with
Stanford University, USA, with her project MEDIX “Marine Environmental DynamIcs
and seX-based analysis for climate change adaptation in marine spatial
planning” (2020-2023). Dr. Gissi has over a decade of research experience in
producing and integrating ecological knowledge insights in decision making
processes. She has applied her findings in marine spatial planning (MSP) in the
Mediterranean Sea, and also in environmental and energy planning. She took part
since the beginning to the first tests of implementing MSP in the Mediterranean
Sea, and she keeps supporting the implementation of the MSP Directive
2014/89/EC in collaboration with the National competent authorities in the
Mediterranean. Dr. Gissi has published broadly in the field of ecosystem based
management and marine spatial planning, conservation planning and applied
ecology.
