Activities
Research study on the transitioning port and city relationship for planning and development. Different types of development over the past 30 years have had adverse effects on the coastline of South Africa, I am particularly concentrating on the port of Durban. Environmental laws and regulations have played an important role in regulating development. However the relationship between port and city has been strained due to port authority functioning at national level and the municipality operating at the local level. There are multiple actors, in addition to the port and city, which characterizes the port-city as a complex system. My study also uses principle of policy analysis of multi-actor systems, transition management and rounds model for decision making to analyse the data and make sound recommendations to improve the port-city relationship and plan in a more transparent and sustainable approach

Comment(s)
I am an early career scientist seeking more experience and opportunities in coastal research, particularly socio spatial planning, port-city development and expansion, policy analysis of multi-actor systems in coastal cities.
I have in interest in learning how to better use geo-spatial tools to enhance my research and communicate findings using various mediums including maps.
