Currently
serving as a Senior Scientist in the Ocean Buoy Network (OBN), Ocean Health
Group at the National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT), Ministry of Earth
Sciences, Government of India, Chennai. Has been associated with NIOT since
November 1999, bringing over 25 years of experience in ocean science and
technology, with a strong focus on ocean observation systems, data management,
and operational oceanography.
An
experienced ocean technology professional with significant expertise in the
operation, management, and monitoring of ocean buoy networks, including
Met-Ocean Buoys, OMNI Buoys, and Tsunami Buoy systems. The data generated from
these platforms are routinely utilized by national agencies such as the India
Meteorological Department (IMD) and the National Disaster Management Authority
for issuing forecasts, warnings, and advisories.
Key contributions
include:
- Development
of software applications and mobile apps for ocean data access and system
monitoring
- Establishment
of the Ocean Data Centre at NIOT
- Design
and development of an Acoustic Tide Gauge integrated with real-time
communication systems
- Extensive
field experience in buoy deployment, retrieval operations, and ocean instrument
installation, including participation in multiple research vessel expeditions
- Former
Ambassador for Ocean Best Practices Systems (OBPS) – India region
- Currently
serving as a Steering Group Member for the IOC-UNESCO Ocean Data and
Information System (ODIS)
