WORK EXPERIENCE:
• Oceanography Centre, University of Cyprus, Nicosia, Cyprus, Research Scientist, December 2007 to present:
- Conduct research on biological oceanography, using satellite remote sensing data, Investigate responses of Eastern Mediterranean sea surface temperatures and salinities to climate change, Estimate zooplankton concentrations based on chlorophyll abundance and sea surface temperatures.
• Graduate Research Assistant, Ocean Resources and Ecosystems Program, Earth & Atmospheric Science, Cornell University, May-Aug. 2005, Jan.-May 2006, Jun.- Aug. 2006, Jan.-May 2007, Jun.-Aug. 2007:
- Investigated responses of Mediterranean sea surface temperatures to climate change, identified spatial and temporal correlations between changes in temperatures and chlorophyll concentrations with whales movements and presence in the Northeast Atlantic, and modeled northern right whale reproduction success and survivability based on ecosystem changes, Programmed using IDL and MATLAB to analyze satellite remote sensing data and modeled whale populations.
• Teaching Assistant, Satellite Remote Sensing in Biological Oceanography, Summer Special Programs, Cornell University, May-Jun. 2006, May-Jun. 2007:
- Taught this 2 week summer intensive course that was attended by 20 graduate and professional students from all over the world, Edited handouts and problem sets, Made sure computer programs were written properly and data were located in the correct path, Oversaw two undergraduate students who were helping TA the course, Helped participants during computer work to debug their IDL programs and download satellite remote sensing data.
• Graduate Research Assistant, Bioacoustics Research Program, Cornell University, Aug.-Dec. 2006:
- Analyzed underwater data of boat noise from Glacier Bay National Park and collaborated on writing a research paper based on the analysis.
• Graduate Research Assistant, Natural Resources, Cornell University, May-Dec. 2001:
- Conducted research in Long Island, NY, on sea turtles, Collaborated with the Cornell Cooperative Extension Marine Program in Long Island, Worked with the New York State Marine Mammal and Sea Turtle Stranding Program.
• Intern, Office of Protected Resources, Marine Mammal Division, National Marine Fisheries Service, Silver Spring, MD, U.S.A., Sep.-Dec. 1999:
- Conducted research on the results since the Implementation of the Northern Right Whale Mandatory Ship Reporting System, Edited Northern Right Whale Recovery Plan, Prepared educational material for mariners, Assembled packet on Mandatory Ship Reporting System: A Guide for Mariners, Helped create web page for the Mandatory Ship Reporting System, Assisted in editing the Marine Mammal Protection Act of 1972: 1998 Annual Report.
