Within the framework of the Intergovernmental Coordination Group for the Tsunami and Other Coastal Hazards Warning System for the Caribbean and Adjacent Regions (ICG/CARIBE-EWS), the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) of UNESCO, the Puerto Rico Seismic Network (PRSN) of the University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez (UPRM) and the Caribbean Tsunami Warning Program (US NOAA/NWS) are organizing the “Fourth Training Course for Operators of Sea Level Stations in the Caribbean and Adjacent Regions”, in Mayagüez, Puerto Rico, 3–7 November 2014. Currently over 60 sea level stations in the Caribbean and Adjacent Regions are contributing to the CARIBE EWS and are available to the existing Tsunami Warning Centres. In addition to fulfilling the requirements of tsunami services it is encouraged that the stations also meet the requirements of the Global Sea Level Observing System (GLOSS). The aim of this training course is to facilitate the sustainability of this observational system. The course has two main components: the first focusing on the installation and operation of the stations and the second on the quality control, archival and analysis of the sea level data. It is expected that all participants will also present a written and oral report on the status of sea level operations of their institution.
