Activities
The Chair is hosted at IEA/USP to act as a strategic UNESCO partner and to promote UNESCO’s Medium-Term Strategy (2014-2021), SDGs (especially SDG14), UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021-2030), IOC’s Capacity Building Strategy (2015-2021) and the international agenda on oceans. The Chair has an incremental strategy to build solid grounds for a sustained and long-term multi-institutional Ocean Partnership towards its sustainability, from the local (USP/São Paulo State level; Phase 1; 2018-2022) to the national (Phase 2; 2022-2026) and international (Phase 3; 2026-2030) levels. The aim of the chair is to promote integrated and interdisciplinary science for ocean sustainability through knowledge co-production and public dissemination at large, thus contributing to ocean literacy and social control. It also aims to actively reach out to policy-makers, thus contributing to better-informed decision-making. The chair acts channeling institutions and ongoing activities and catalyzing partnerships and actions for ocean sustainability
