Activities

Overall National Ocean Affairs Policy Making institution with mandate to advise the Cabinet of Ministers.

The Committee is comprised of representatives from all line Ministries and agencies involved in ocean and maritime related affairs, including all living and non living resources related policy directives.

The specific mandate as per the Cabinet directive is as follows:

Advise the Government on all matters pertaining to Sri Lanka's Continental Shelf Margin Claim before the UN CLCS.
Develop policy that will provide consistency with respect to all international negotiations on matters of ocean affairs , maritime borders and exploration and utilization of marine resources, in consultation with relevant agencies
to develop recommendations to establish a permanent institution to carry out the requisite preparatory work to defend Sri Lanka's continental shelf claim before the UN.
