Activities
Teaching and research in the field of coastal and harbor engineering have been started in 1964 at Civil Engineering Department of Middle East Technical University (METU).
Steady progress in the activities and ever increasing demand of state departments and private firms for applied research have led to be establishment of Coastal and Harbor Engineering Research Institute (KLARE) in 1977. the institute had changed the name to Ocean Engineering Research Center in 1977.
The major research interests of the ocean engineering research center include the generation and transformation of wind wave, tidal waves and currents, wave hindcasting and wave statistics, wave forces and other wave structure interaction problems, design of coastal and harbor structures, harbor planning and design, coastal pollution, and offshore engineering.
A list of completed applied research projects by the Research Center is enclosed.
It may be seen that, the Center gathered wide and uncompetitive knowledge about the Turkey’s Coastal Hydraulics and it’s modeling
