The Kuwait Meteorological Department, of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, is located at Kuwait International Airport. A qualified staff of approximately 150 employees work around the clock to operate high tech meteorological equipment and systems for 27 land and marine automatic weather observation stations, a latest generation Doppler Weather Radar, 20 wind-shear early warning systems, and specialised systems to measure the radiation and elements of the upper atmosphere/ozone layer.

In addition to the department’s role of being the official body for weather information for the safety of air navigation and marine, the department also provide its services to different users in various sectors on a 24hour by 7days a week basis. These includesan automated feed of weather information sent to the airport’s air navigation and the Air Force to ensure the safety of all inbound and outbound aviation traffic. Moreover, our weather reports are used in marine operations for the Navy, Coast Guard, Kuwait Port Authority, and ports of Kuwait oil companies. Our users include, but not limited to, transportation, public works, energy and water, agriculture, fishery, livestock, the mass media and educational and scientific institutions.
