Yelda AKTAN TURAN is a Professor
in Marine and Freshwater Resources Management Department at the Faculty of
Aquatic Sciences, Istanbul University. She obtained her first degree, BSc, at
the Faculty of Aquatic Sciences,
İstanbul University. She attended to Institute of Sciences, Istanbul
University, for her PhD. She did post-doctoral studies at Sassari University,
Italy. Her main research areas include the phytoplankton, benthic algal
communities and macrophytes in freshwater and coastal marine areas, their
interactions with environmental parameters, particularly harmful algal blooms,
mucilage and eutrophication events. In addition to algal ecology, her recent
scientific researches are focused on the sensitive habitats. She has developed
partnerships with many national and international groups involved in estimating
of health status of Posidonia oceanica meadows in marine coastal areas.
