Activities
I am a marine scientist and quantitative ecologist, and I am passionate about marine species and our relationship with the oceans. I believe we need to combine our understanding of life in marine ecosystems with social sciences and governance so we can manage and conserve oceans fairly. I see cooperation as the strongest way forward to reconcile our relationships with nature and others. In my work, I am developing international and interdisciplinary collaborative efforts to find common ways forward.
I have worked on a broad range of topics including:
- marine ecology from population dynamics to ecosystem functioning and fisheries
- biodiversity conservation and international policy of benthic ecosystems
- interdisciplinary projects from taxonomy to philosophy of science and conservation practice
- resource dynamics under climate change and impacts on international relations and conflicts
- infrastructure and community building around monitoring data to study biodiversity under global change
