In particular, his main fields of experience are:
1. study of marine protected habitats and species;
2. design and implementation of MPAs, through the application of GIS based systems of multi-criteria analysis and the development of decision support systems;
3. study the effect and the real enforcement of the protection measures and of their effectiveness in MPAs on fish assemblages through the application of underwater visual census;
4. coordinating the Italian activities of implementation of the Marine Strategy Framework Directive as regard Descriptor 1 “Biodiversity”;
5. study of small-scale fisheries and human activities in MPAs;
6. specific
expertise in managing and coordinating and research activities.

His
major professional interests, developed in over 40 years of post-graduate,
focus on marine science and conservation. He has dedicated his studies to

research for the management and conservation of marine habitats and species in
the framework of the ecosystem approach.
