I am an Oceans advocate; Environmental, Law of the Sea and International Lawyer and Researcher.
My current Ph.D. research focuses on the implementation of the framework governing Marine Scientific Research under UNCLOS by Small Island Developing States.
Two major topics that underpin the research are: the interplay between science, policy, and the law of the sea, and how UNCLOS can be an instrument to promote equity.
I anticipate that this research will have a positive impact on discussions about #SDG14 #BBNJ #MGRS #2030SeabedSurvey #OceanDecade and promoting #Equity
In my former job at Oceana Brazil, I designed the legal strategies for campaigns and advised on judicial risks and opportunities.
Some of my achievements there are: drafted and judicial support for a Sustainable Fishing Act banning bottom trawling in the coastal south of Brazil; the re-establishment of the Red List of Endanger Species - that had been suspended by judicial order; the release of scientific documents which were previously considered confidential, through the Freedom of Information Act; and drafting of the civil society report on Brazil’s implementation of the SDG, focusing in the SDG 14.
My areas of interest and expertise for research are the law of the sea, ocean governance, environmental law and policy, and public international law.
