Activities
● Preparing and disseminating the
bi-monthly coral bleaching alerts to partners and collaborators across the
Western Indian Ocean region by relying on global and regional data sources and
constant monitoring of NOAA products
● Conducting an MSc thesis research on
'Monitoring coral bleaching and mortality prevalence in Mombasa and Kilifi
counties, funded by the Erasmus+ grant from the University of Milan, Bicocca
with CORDIO East Africa as the hosting institution and partner. The project was
successfully finished with collaboration from Beach Management Units in fishing
sites, Locally Managed Marine Association based in marine sanctuaries and the
research department for the Mombasa National Marine Park and Reserve 9managed
by the Kenya Wildlife Services, KWS)
● Marine research design, implementation,
data collection, data analysis, and report synthesis for purposes of improving
marine space and resource conservation and management
● Co-author on the chapter on learning
theories and approaches in the Learning Networks for fisheries exchange report
as a means of enacting community-based natural resource management
● Reviewed the trainer’s manual for the
beach management unit that is being used in the co-management of coastal and
marine fisheries
● Contributing a wide range of Marine
Spatial information in the Kwale County Integrated Spatial Plan as part of
SERVIR (a joint initiative by USAID and NASA) project’s aim of bringing coral
reef and coastal ecosystem data into county decision making and overall
planning
● Volunteer in the International Coastal The cleanup initiative by being active in the planning committee on fundraising,
event logistics and beach trash collection which is a part of the Ocean
Conservancy’s global beach cleanup and marine litter data collection
● Marine litter brand audits of the trash
collected during the International Coastal Cleanup day including building a
database, data cleanup, and analysis which contributes to an integral part of
the SDG Plastics Lab efforts towards sustainable waste management in coastal
communities.
