Activities
Samara is an undergraduate of the University of Sri Jayawardenepura majoring in Geography. She is passionate about the oceans, and has a special interest in zoobiogeography. Her knowledge in using several softwares of Geographical Information Systems has allowed her to excel in many research activities. After competing her SCUBA certification, she did a short stint with our She had received her initial training as a young researcher specifically in the field of coral ecology under the supervision of BRT team since 2017.She is also a certified Open Water Diver .Since May 2018,she has been working with the marine research organisation Blue Resources Trust, mapping Kayankerni reef on Sri Lanka’s east coast using a combination of techniques including satellite imagery ,underwater videography and snorkeling around the reef . She had received her initial training as a young researcher specifically in the field of coral ecology under the supervision of BRT team since 2017.She is also a certified Open Water Diver .
Engagement in many research work especially in the field of humanities and social sciences has accelerated her willingness to continue as a researcher. She was awarded the Best Employability Skills Award for Humanities and Social Sciences faculty of University of Sri Jayawardenapura for her work in many fields including management, academics, volunteering, leadership, research and community based work. Samara was also a Unilever Spark for the the term 2017/2018 and an AIESECer from 2015-2017.
