Subject Area
Biological Oceanography, Marine Ecology
Activities
Significantly
contributed in the field of Marine Microbiology with special reference to
Marine Mycology. His work on the basis and applied research on marine fungi is
praise-worthy. He has worked on disease management in aquaculture, probiotics
and its applications, diversity and bio-prospecting of fungi from marine
environments such as isolation and identification of marine fungi, production and characterization of different
active bio-molecules such as Citric Acid from Aspergillus niger, cyclosporine A (CyA) from Fusarium oxysporum, taxol from Fusarium moliniforme, β glucan from Pleurotus florida, 5-Oxa-6-azaspiro
[3.4] oct-6-ene from Alternaria alternate, chitosan from
endolichenic fungi, isoquercitrin from Xylaria sp., ergosterol
peroxide from Fulvifimes sp., biofuel from Rhodotorula muciloginosa
and anti-dermatophytic molecules from marine fungi besides their
biological properties. In addition, he
has developed culture technologies for the mass production of mushroom P. florida
using marine resources and also transferred the technique from lab to land to
the fisher women self help groups and entrepreneurs through several training
and demonstration programmes.
