Subject Area
Biological Oceanography, Marine Ecology
Activities
My Biology degree thesis focused on the ecological population
dynamics of the white furrow shell bivalve Abra
alba from an Sardinian lagoon.
Afterwards, in my Master degree (in Marine Biology) I studied
the cytogenetic localization of the ribosomal gene family, by fluorescence in
situ hybridization, in the Mediterranean moray eel, Muraena Helena.
Nowadays I am currently
enrolled on a volunteer traineeship where I am daily responsible for the sorting,
identification and storage (for molecular analysis) of both marine animals and macroalgae.
During the last months, I have learnt Molecular Biology skills such as DNA
extraction (from both animal and algae) and how to carry out PCR (polymerase
chain reaction), from both marine animals and macroalgae DNA. Additionally, I
am sequencing and learning how to analyze the obtained sequences, using
different phylogenetic and population genetics software.
Sea regions of study
