Activities
Today, I work within the Ocean
state secretary. It is a new department freshly created in Madagascar, under
the supervision of the Ministry of Halieutic Resources and Fisheries. Inside
this secretary, I manage a department in charge for the coordination and
planning of Malagasy maritime space. We are starting actually works on drawing
Marine Spatial Planning MSP for the country. This project is combined with a
huge work of data collection, storage and management. This is a very ambitious
project for the country because aside from the natural beauty of the landscape
in Madagascar, the country has also an enormous potential in gas, petroleum,
and mining resources. The implementation of the MSP will bring a better vision,
appreciation, rational exploitation of our maritime heritages and a better
structuring and coordination of the use of this space in order to aim for a
better development of both local and national economy.
Apart from that, I
also work on biomonitoring, on marine ecology, trying to assess the state of
vitality of coral reefs on the east coast of Madagascar. There are great
numbers of investment projects (mining, port, tourism) on this part of the
country. So, this is a biannual monitoring done to have the trend of evolution
of coral reef coverage around this area.
