A Framework for Ocean Observing

Author(s) post-OceanObs’09 (www.oceanobs09.net) conference working group
Summary This document was prepared by the Task Team for an Integrated Framework for Sustained Ocean Observing (IFSOO) 1. It takes lessons learned from the successes of existing ocean observing efforts, and outlines a Framework that would guide the ocean observing community as a whole to establish the requirements for an integrated (from physics through biogeochemistry to ocean biology and ecosystems) and sustained global observing system, this to include the variables to be measured, the approach to measuring these, and the way in which their data and products will be managed and made widely available.
