Marine biologist at University of Bogotá (UTadeo), with a PhD in Oceanography at University of Concepción, Chile. Corresponding member of the Colombian Academy of Exact, Physical and Natural Sciences. Antarctic expedition participant, and a senior researcher in the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation of Colombia. Full professor at UTadeo with 35 years of teaching experience at the undergraduate and graduate levels. He has participated in research projects related to marine ecology, oceanography, water quality, ocean acidification, marine pollution, climate change and biodiversity along tropical, temperate, and polar systems. He has published more than 45 scientific publications in national and international peer-reviewed journals, as well as five books and three chapters focused on marine environmental issues. He has also supervised 60 undergraduate theses and scientific initiation projects in the field of marine sciences, and nearly 10 master's and doctoral theses, primarily on topics related to biological oceanography and marine pollution. He was Dean of the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Engineering, Santa Marta Campus Director, Department of Biological and Environmental Sciences Director. It was also Academic Vice-President and Vice-Rector of Research, Creation, and Innovation. In 2019, he was part of the International Mission of Experts, convened by the Government of Colombia, coordinating the thematic focus on Oceans and Hydrobiological Resources. He currently serves as a Full Professor in the Academic Area of Biological and Environmental Sciences at Utadeo and is like coordinator of the Doctoral Program in Marine Sciences.
