The 1st major upgrade has been made in 1999 with 3rd generation wave model WAM (WAMDI, 1988) for regional (ReWAM, 0.25А) covering Northeast Asia and extension to global (GoWAM, 1.25А) domain. In 2005, the 224 GFlops NEC SX5 is replaced by 18 TFlops Cray X1E which is Parallel Vector Processor (PVP) machine with 128 node modules. With this enhancement of computing environment, the new higher resolution regional (ReWW3) and coastal wind wave prediction system (CoWW3) is under operational since March 2008. The mesh size of 1km with 6 encompassing 3А longitude and 2А latitude domains nested inside regional system. The directional wave spectra at boundaries were provided from 1/12А ReWW3. The WAVEWATCH-III code (Tolman, 2002) is adapted for the new ReWW3 and CoWW3 system. The upgrade of global system (GoWW3) with 0.5А resolution is planned starting from March 2009. The Storm Surge/tide Operational Model (STORM) in KMA covers 115А-150АE, 20А-52АN based on POM (Princeton Ocean Model) (Blumberg and Mellor, 1987) with 1/12А horizontal resolutions including the Yellow Sea, East China Sea and the East Sea, marginal seas around Korea. In this model, the level of storm surge calculated by the difference between tide level and sea level change caused by meteorological effects. The ocean circulation models cover East Asian Marginal Sea and global ocean. Each ocean model is based on ROMS and MOM, respectively. For the modeling effort, data assimilation using satellite SST was also applied to the model. In addition, high-resolution ocean model adopting nesting method is being developed. Based on the above mentioned model (ROMS), currently we are trying to develop operating system to evaluate SST with temporally high-resolution, by employing results of climate model. Moreover, Argo data, that is, temperature and salinity profiles will be assimilated to the model sea. Currently, we distribute model results (and Argo data) via web site (http:// HYPERLINK "http://www.argo.metri.re.kr" argo.metri.re.kr). Although our modeling system is still preliminary for the ocean prediction (e.g. SST), we hope to provide better information in the near future.
