Barbados is the current Chair and the Vice Chairs are the United States and Venezuela, and we will have oversight for the work of the ICG for the next two years. I am particularly pleased to be a part of this meeting.Indeed,at the first meeting of the Intergovernmental Coordination Group in Barbados in January 2006, the countries of the ICG agreed that the low frequencyand high potential losses relatd to tsuanmis requires that vulnerable coastal communities beeducated. This relative importance given to public education and awareness was translatedto action with the establishment ofWorking Group IV. You will hear more about the mandate of Workign Group IV from the working group Chair, Ms Julie Leonard. Once again welcome to this important meeting and I look forward to sharing your experiences in building resilient coastal comuniteis.
